1. Client Profile

Clients:

  • SUMUL (The Surat District Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd) – one of the 18 member unions of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), the organization behind India’s renowned AMUL brand.
  • Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (GCMMF) – India’s largest food products marketing organization, representing more than 3.6 million milk producers through 18 district unions.

Industry: Dairy, Rural Cooperative, and AgriTechTechnology Partner: Taasha Technologies Pvt. Ltd.Objective: To design and develop mobile-first enterprise applications that improve financial inclusion for women and streamline livestock breeding operations through technology.

2. Executive Summary

In partnership with India’s largest dairy cooperatives — SUMUL and AMUL (GCMMF) — Taasha Technologies developed two enterprise-grade mobile applications addressing critical civic and operational needs in the rural dairy ecosystem.

  • SUMUL Mahila Bachat App empowers women members in villages to securely deposit and withdraw savings through SUMUL field agents.
  • AMUL Artificial Insemination App digitizes livestock breeding data, helping improve milk productivity and genetic quality through accurate data capture and real-time reporting.

Both applications exemplify how mobile technology can revolutionize rural governance, cooperative operations, and financial empowerment. With features such as vernacular interfaces, offline functionality, and Bluetooth printing, these apps bridge the gap between digital transformation and grassroots accessibility.

3. Challenges

The dairy cooperatives faced several operational and field-level challenges:

  • Manual Recordkeeping: Data on deposits, withdrawals, and breeding cycles was maintained on paper, leading to delays and inaccuracies.
  • Limited Connectivity: Village-level agents often worked in low or no internet zones, requiring offline app capabilities.
  • Language Diversity: The workforce and beneficiaries spoke multiple regional languages, demanding multilingual user interfaces.
  • Transparency & Trust: Manual transactions lacked real-time receipts, creating trust gaps among women depositors.

Data Management: Livestock breeding data needed digitization for long-term monitoring and genetic improvement programs.

4. Solution Delivered

Taasha Technologies delivered two custom-built, Android-based enterprise solutions tailored to the cooperative ecosystem.

1. SUMUL – Mahila Bachat App
